Salivary Gland

Salivary gland tumors are growth of abnormal cells in the salivary glands. The salivary gland produces saliva in the mouth which helps to keep chewing and digestion. Mostly it is non-cancerous(benign) but in rare cases it can be cancerous. Most commonly it occurs in the parotid salivary gland.

3 Types of Salivary gland tumors:
  • Parotid Gland- It is the largest salivary gland lying in front of each ear.
  • SubMandibular Gland - It is present below the Jaw bone.
  • SubLingual Gland - It is present under the tongue in the floor of the mouth.
Signs and Symptoms:
  • Swelling below or in front of the ear.
  • Numbness and Muscle weakness on one side of the face.
  • Difficulty in swallowing and opening of mouth widely.
